Kamen Rider G (仮面ライダーG Kamen Raidā Jī?, Masked Rider G) was a television special featured on Japanese boy band SMAP’s television show SmaSTATION on January 31, 2009. Produced in association with Toei Company, TV Asahi, and Ishinomori Productions, the special celebrated TV Asahi’s 50th year being on the air as well as acting as a promotional piece for the 10th Heisei Kamen Rider Series, Kamen Rider Decade.
The main character, Goro, is a sommelier, a wine steward, who is kidnapped in the same manner as the original Showa Riders by an evil once-anti-terrorist organization called SHADE and transformed into the super soldier form he has now. During a raid of Tv Asahi by SHADE, Goro meets up with his girlfriend who jogs his memory and he becomes a warrior for justice! With the help of the former Heisei Kamen Riders and Decade he finds his courage to begin his never-ending battle to end SHADE’s tyrannical regime.
This series was the first non-official Kamen Rider production and mostly existed as a bit of a parody with the main character, Goro, transforming and using attacks based on decanting of wine. This little special paved the way for future unofficial Toei productions such as the much-lauded Akibaranger!
